Briton’s Dave Daniell missed the last Revolution of the 2010/11 track season, but he made up for it with victories in the Individual and Team Sprint.
The 20-year-old regular to the revolution event, who was the junior team-sprint champion in 2006 and 2007, also took third in the Kerin. Daniell never looked under pressure in the final as he faced Dutch rider Roy Van Den Berg, who had beaten countryman Teun Mulder to get there. The Briton got the just half a lap before the bell, there was no looking back after that, eventually winning by several bike lengths.
Not Content with One
After winning the second event of the night, Daniell went on to win the final event which was the tem sprint. Yet gain it was between Britain and the Netherlands when Pete Mitchell, Phillip Hindes joined him shaping up against Mulder, Van Den Berg. Olympic silver medallist Ross Edgar also became an honorary Dutchman after Hugo Haak dropped due to illness.
Another first for the Revolution series was the Australian pursuit which involved eight riders equally spread around the track. All the riders start at the same time and if you get caught by the rider behind you must leave the track until there is one left. Russell Downing started off quickly finally managing to catch three riders. However, he paid for the exuberance eventually losing to the winner Leif Lampeter.
Marvulli Strikes Again
In the last Revolution Franco Marvulli showed his impressive track skills and this weekend was no different. First off for the Swiss rider was the Team Elimination with his Le Col teammates Andy Fenn and John Mould. The event was a combination of a devil and a Madison with sprints every three laps. It was Marvulli’s outstanding power who lead Le Col to beat the professional might of Team Sky.
Fenn and Marvulli also joined for the 1km Madison beating off the likes of Dean Downing, Peter Kennaugh and Mark Christian with their partners. Fenn took the opening two laps but was down by a tenth to the leaders at the time Claudio Imhof and Sam Harrison. A final drive to the line by Marvulli was enough to make the difference in the end.
The Team Points Race was the final hurrah for Marvulli on Saturday evening finishing with an overall score of 29 points. His teammate Mould also went on to win the Scratch Race by beating off Kennaugh and Alex Dowsett. Ever second place Teun Mulder finally managed a first place in the Kerin ahead of Edgar, who had rejoined his Sky team.
DHL Young Stars
Also in action were the DHL future stars who were definitely given some inspiration by former winner Fenn doing so well. Sam Lowe lost his lead in the previous event but he made his best attempt at taking it back by winning the points race. His efforts were scuppered when current leader Mat Rotherham took the six lap dash. Emily Kay continued her domination of the girl’s competition by winning all the events and extending her lead at the top of the table.
