UCI begins court proceedings against Floyd Landis

Things seem to have gone from bad to worse for cycling’s resident mad hatter Floyd Landis, as the UCI start legal proceedings.

Landis has been attacking members of the cycling fraternity since he was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title and banned. The American was tested positive for abnormal levels of testosterone and since then it has been difficult to tell the truth from lies. It seems that Pat McQuaid has finally had enough of the nonsense and has lodged the case with a Swiss court.

It is unclear what the nature of the case will be, but a spokesman released this statement; "by this step, made necessary by numerous unacceptable public statements by Mr Landis, the UCI is seeking to defend the integrity of the cycling movement as a whole against the accusations of a rider who, by breaching the anti-doping rules, caused cycling serious harm."

It is about time someone pulls Landis up on these speculative claims, so he knows he can’t just try and ruin other people’s careers. What he did was all about publicity, if he really believes the individuals were guilty he would have been more tactful. You do have to feel sorry for him though; it seems he is in a very bad place and could do with some form of therapy.

It will be interesting to see the fallout from this case and I’m sure there will be many controversies to come from it.
